THE JOHNSON TEAM  &  Foster Care

Helping Colorado Springs find the right home whether it’s real estate or a child’s forever home!

“My name is Jeff Johnson and I’m the owner of The Johnson Team.  This picture was taken a few days before my oldest daughter’s adoption day.

Dedicated to finding the right homes for our community whether it’s through real estate or foster care.

“As the owner of the Johnson Team, I can’t even express how proud I am that the entire team has stepped up to help our local foster children and local foster parents. We raised $7000 in 2016 through a Hope and Home fundraiser. In addition to doing Hope and Home’s fundraiser where we raise funds through others in the community, if our team reaches our sales goals this year, we will directly donate a total of $20,000.00 to Hope and Home and at least one other charity in Colorado Springs. This money goes towards helping better train foster parents so they can handle the stress and hardships of doing foster care and to directly bettering the experience the children have while they are in foster care.”

As part of The Johnson Team, we all consider ourselves family. No matter what our situation, we are always there to help each other. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a family that is there for them like we do. That is why we as a team are dedicated to raising a minimum of $20,000 by the end of 2017 to donate to our foster care community. We feel that every child should be part of a family where they are truly loved and supported and not have to worry about who will take care of them or protect them. No child should every feel as though they aren’t loved or protected, or cared for. No child should ever feel as though they have to be the adult to protect and care for their brothers and sisters. I am so excited to be part of such a great team that realizes that we can make a difference one child at a time!

4 out of my 5 children were adopted out of local foster care, so I know 1st hand how bad these kids need our help. Most people do not realize the serious issues we have right here in Colorado Springs. Every kid deserves to have a childhood where they can be safe and act like a child. Many of these children grew up in conditions you probably couldn’t even imagine if you tried. And they need help outside the government to get the proper care they need. I’m so proud to have a team where every single member and their spouses have jumped in to help better this community and to help these children find homes.

The facts are scary.  Right now in our community 80% of our inmates were in foster care at some point in their lives and so were a good portion of our homeless.  Talk about nipping it in the bud.  If we can stop our Colorado Springs foster children from aging out of the system with no family and or anyone that every loved them enough to keep them, think about how that might change the choices they decide to make later in life.

The Johnson Team is also giving foster parents date nights twice a quarter. Usually there are about 30-35 kids there each time, so quite a few foster parents get a night out to just have a date, regroup, or just to recharge for the next day.

Having the ability to help others is a powerful thing. If we can provide hope for a child in need by donating our time or money, how can you say no. If you think about the overwhelming feeling of love you have for your children or nieces or nephews , or anyone really, I feel that every child deserves to feel how special they are. Everyone does have the ability to help others and it comes down to the choice to do so, to do something for someone with no expectation of a return. To know that I’ve helped make a child’s day brighter, their future brighter, that’s enough for me. Children are our future, let’s show them how much we believe in them! The Johnson team has provided an opportunity to give back to our community in a way that can help shape the future. I respect that and I’m honored to be a part of it.

“We’ve adopted our kids now and they’ve been with us now about 8 years, and when we were foster parents we had an amazing support group around us that helped us keep our marriage strong and honestly just be better parents for our kids. Foster children have a lot more needs, appointments and therapies than the average child and it takes it’s toll. The date nights we received were breaths of fresh air where we got a chance to get ready for the next week or just build our marriage. Most people don’t have this support system, so we’re trying to do what we can to give them what we had.”

Can I Make a Difference?

There are a lot of sad things that happen around us here in Colorado Springs, and yes in Briargate. Often times, it’s easier to pretend they doesn’t exist.  They do exist whether we see them or not, and the more we acknowledge it and allow ourselves to feel that pain, the more opportunities we have to fix it and make a difference in someone’s life.  We can help take a hopeless future and give it life and possibilities.  We can take dead eyes and bring back that sparkle.  I’ve seen it happen.   It’s not easy, but it’s good.
